ABORTION RIGHTS
With right-wing extremists trying to ban abortion with no exceptions, not even for rape, incest or to save the life of the mother, we need a representative who will protect and expand reproductive rights. Middleton will always protect our reproductive rights and fought to keep a local clinic open that provided health care services and birth control for women. That is why she's supported by women’s groups, nurses and Planned Parenthood.
WOMEN'S EQUALITY
Middleton is a mom who grew up the sister to eight brothers. She was the first African American woman to serve as Mayor in Sacramento County and is still the only African American elected to a legislative office in Sacramento County, giving her the unique perspective to understand the power women can have in helping improve our community. She will work to protect all women and their reproductive rights, supports equal pay for equal work and will ensure women are well represented in Sacramento.
HOUSING AFFORDABILITY
As the leader of a local non-profit, Middleton has helped get hundreds of families into secure housing. She now serves on the bipartisan state Housing Partnership Board, delivering more housing people can afford to thousands of families across the state. In the Assembly, she will work to make it easier and faster to build more housing.
ECONOMIC STABILITY
As a small business owner, Middleton is focused on helping small businesses grow. She will hold the line on taxes on middle class families and small businesses and will not support a tax increase unless it is approved by voters. She has fought to boost wages and benefits for workers and has brought thousands of good- paying jobs to our community. As our Assemblymember, Middleton will address cost of living challenges by providing more housing that’s affordable, and create good-paying jobs.
COMMUNITY SAFETY
Middleton will keep our communities safe by working to reduce gun violence by getting illegal guns off the street and requiring background checks to keep guns out of the hands of criminals. That's why she supports Proposition 36
.
She has, and will continue to, fight for investments in youth violence prevention while ensuring we give law enforcement the resources they need to put dangerous criminals in prison. In her role as a City Councilmember, Middleton led the effort to support key legislation related to addressing the fentanyl crisis, including Fentanyl Addiction and Overdose Prevention Task Force (AB33), Controlled Substances: Enhancements (AB367), State Threat Assessment Center: Transnational Criminal Organizations (AB474), and Controlled Substances (AB955).
